Types of Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we explore three interconnected factors that affect mental health and recognize that positive changes in one can lead to improvements in others: thoughts, feelings/emotions, and behaviors/environment. With a mindfulness-based approach, we add the factor of awareness to see the bigger picture of ourselves and make these changes without self-judgment and shame.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
In ACT, we take a new stance toward our thoughts and emotions: acceptance. ACT is all about giving up the fight against negative thoughts and feelings because, often, the struggle not to feel a certain way causes us the most pain and leaves us drained of energy. We can take that newfound energy to create a life that aligns with our values and offers psychological flexibility to manage difficult times.
